Welcome to Riverside Cottage at Helwith Bridge

A unique riverside holiday cottage in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

Drive to arrive, open your own front door and settle-in to our cosy and quirky slate-built cottage in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

Built around 1780 as a quarryman’s cottage and toll house, it was later combined to form a single dwelling. With wonky, creaky floors, amazing river, and railway views from almost every room and a friendly pub next door, what more could you need for a memorable Yorkshire Dales holiday?

What to expect?

We’re a two bedroom, pet friendly, adults only cottage built onto the banks of the River Ribble. Each of our rooms has direct river views and the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway is across the water at eye level. Spot steam trains, kingfishers, ducks and even otters from the Juliet balcony, enjoy a night with Netflix, a meal at the pub next door or walk the three peaks – everything’s on your doorstep.

The cottage sleeps three or four adults in two double bedrooms. There’s a bathroom, kitchen with cooker, compact dishwasher, fridge and mini freezer. Central heating, open fireplace and all linens are provided. Parking for one car, patio table and flagstone yard.

Local amenities

Helwith Bridge is a historic Hamlet built from ‘flags’ – local slate mined from nearby quarries. These quarries have formed the landscape for hundreds of years, mining roadstone for motorways and airfields across the UK.

The cottage is adjacent to a great pub and is literally on the doorstep of some of the best rural walking and hiking in England. If you wish to swim, the Settle Pool is a great community owned asset which must be discovered! Follow the link to find out more.

The nearest shops, supermarkets and other facilities are in Settle (4 miles distant) and there are fabulous independent grocery stores in Austwick and Clapham. If (like us) you’ll need a cuppa on arrival – please don’t forget your milk!
