Our Cottage

Built into the banks of the River Ribble, Riverside Cottage (or Old Drummer’s House) was originally two cottages that were later combined and extended. Likely housing a quarryman’s family and river toll crossing (the Ribble is quite narrow here), the Grade II listed skew Bridge spanning the river and railway was built much later.

Constructed from local flags (slate roughly cut into slabs) and then lime mortared in a rudimentary fashion, the house moved and twisted over the years, leaving us with wonky, creaky floors, misaligned walls, and multiple levels throughout!
Due to the nature of the property, we’re an adult only holiday cottage, although up to two well behaved dogs are welcome downstairs. We apologise that the property is also unsuitable for guests with mobility issues.

Riverside Cottage offers practical, cosy accommodation from Easter through to the end of October. Each room is well appointed and decorated with family heirlooms and quirky items found on our travels. We hope to offer comfort without chintz or magnolia!
